On the morning of September 11, 2001, a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of September 11, 2001, resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 25,000 injuries, and substantial long-term health consequences, in addition to at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. The attacks were the deadliest terrorist attacks in world history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States. In remembrance of this tragic event, a ceremony will be held at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City on Sunday, September 11, 2023. The ceremony will begin at 8:46 a.m., the time when the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Eric Adams, Governor Kathy Hochul, and other dignitaries. There will also be a reading of the names of the victims, a moment of silence, and a musical performance. The 9/11 Memorial is a sacred place of remembrance and reflection. It is a place where people can come to remember the victims of the attacks and to honor the heroes who responded to them.
