2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance First Drive
F1 tech for the street is impressive and rewarding but it's not overkill
The previous W205-generation AMG C63 reduced that down to 40 liters but nobody really complained as it was still an awesome V8.
While overkill was achieved back then by excessively large displacement, today's new 2025 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance takes a different approach. It employs a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, a 150-kW electric motor on the rear axle, and a 9-speed automatic transmission. The combined output is 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to propel the C63 S E Performance from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and on to a top track speed of 174 mph.
On the road, the C63 S E Performance is an absolute beast. The acceleration is mind-boggling, and the handling is sharp and precise. The car feels incredibly planted and composed, even at high speeds.
However, there is one downside to all of this power and performance: fuel economy. The C63 S E Performance is rated at just 22 mpg combined, which is significantly less than the previous V8 model.
Overall, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance is an impressive and rewarding car to drive. It offers blistering performance and sharp handling, but it comes at the cost of fuel economy.
