Why Citadel Shades and Washes Enhance Painting
How are Citadel Shades and Washes Applied?
Citadel Shades and Washes revolutionized the world of miniature painting when they were first released in 2007. These products are designed to add depth, shadows, and highlights to your models, making them look more realistic and detailed. But how do you use them effectively?
The first step is to choose the right brush. Large brushes with firm bristles and a broad flat head are ideal for applying base coats. Once you have your brush, you need to decide which Citadel Shade or Wash to use. There are a wide variety of shades and washes available, each with its own unique properties.
Choosing the Right Citadel Shade or Wash
Some prefer washes with a stronger tint like the old Citadel Shade paints, which almost function like glazes. Others prefer washes with a more subtle effect. It really depends on your personal preferences
Once you have chosen your Citadel Shade or Wash, you need to apply it to your model. The best way to do this is to thin the wash with a little water. This will help it to flow more easily and avoid pooling in recesses. Once the wash is thinned, you can apply it to your model using a brush. Be sure to apply it evenly, and avoid getting it on areas that you don't want to be shaded.
Once you have applied the wash, you need to let it dry completely. This may take several hours, or even overnight. Once the wash is dry, you can add additional layers of paint or washes to further enhance the effect.
