DHCP Vendor-Specific Information
MSFT 5.0 and dhcpcd-5.5.6
MSFT 5.0 is a vendor class identifier that indicates a Windows computer, while dhcpcd-5.5.6 is a vendor class identifier that indicates an Android device. These identifiers are used in DHCP requests to identify the type of device that is making the request.
Updated Client Vendor Name for Windows-based Devices
The traditional Client Vendor Name for Windows-based devices has been updated from "MSFT 50" to "MSFT 5.0". This change was made to better reflect the version of the Windows operating system that is being used. Some Windows-based devices may still show up as "MSFT 50" in DHCP requests.
DHCP Vendor-Specific Options
A DHCP server can be configured to send vendor-specific options to clients. These options are used to provide additional information to the client, such as the network configuration or the location of the DHCP server.
DHCP Option 43, Vendor Specific Information, is used to send vendor-specific options to clients. The value of this option is only sent to clients that have a specific vendor class identifier. For example, a DHCP server could be configured to send a DHCP Option 43 value to all clients that have the vendor class identifier "MSFT 5.0".
